Basic Social Studies (with Security Education) for Primary Schools is a revised course of six books written to ensure excellent performance of pupils in common entrance examinations and various scholarship tests. It satisfies the requirements of the Social Studies and Security Education components of the new Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) curriculum for Religion and National Values for Primary Schools. The book divides the work into themes and units for convenience of study. Each unit is concluded with a comprehensive multiple-choice and essay revision exercise to help assess how well pupils have learnt the topics treated. The book is divided into two parts: Social Studies and Security Education. Each part discusses emerging global issues. The first part discusses topics, such as family life, environmental education, conflict and cooperation, drug abuse, gender equality and personal hygiene, while the second part discusses neighbourhood security and safety.
