Basic Social Studies for Primary Schools is a revised course of six books written to ensure excellent performance of pupils in common entrance examinations and various scholarship tests. It satisfies the requirement of the Social Studies and Security Education components of the new Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) curriculum for National Values for primary schools. The book divides the work into themes and units for convenience of study. Each unit is concluded with a comprehensive multiple-choice and essay revision exercise to help assess how well pupils have learnt the topics treated. The book is divided into two parts, with each part discussing emerging global issues. Part A discusses topics such as family life, environmental education, conflict and cooperation, drug abuse, gender equality and personal hygiene. Part B deals with neighbourhood security and safety. It is, therefore, hoped that the users of this book will find it useful and rewarding.
